Regulatory Guidance and Design LLC, run by Robert G. DuPont, provides monitoring and consulting services regarding Wisconsin's building-related regulatory programs.

In December 2009, Mr DuPont retired from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, after more than 34 years of state service. Upon retirement, he received a commendation jointly signed by Governor Jim Doyle and four previous Governors; Tommy Thompson, Tony Earl, Martin Schreiber and Patrick Lucey


Robert was Director of the Program Development Bureau, within the Safety and Buildings Division of the Department of Commerce from 1995 to 2009.


Prior to that, Mr. DuPont was Director of the Bureau of Building Water Systems for three years, Chief of Licensing and Administrative Support for seven years and a plumbing plan reviewer when originally hired by the state in 1975.   


As the Director of Program Development in the Commerce Safety and Buildings Division, Mr. DuPont supervised seven program managers and three communication specialists who developed codes and program improvements in cooperation with citizen advisory councils and program staff within the Division. He also supervised the Fire Prevention Program from 2005 until his retirement, successfully implementing program improvements pertaining to state funding of fire departments.


For many years Robert worked closely with interest groups and legislators in developing laws related to programs administered by the Safety and Buildings Division.


Mr. DuPont has been very involved in advancing the concept of networking and coordinating municipal and state regulatory programs throughout Wisconsin.  In 2007 he spearheaded formation of the Wisconsin Building Safety Network.


Robert graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1975 with a degree in Architectural and Building Construction Engineering Technology. He and his wife reside in Middleton, Wisconsin.
